Economic downturn in Bath Spa & North Somerset


The effects of an economic downturn look set to have a varying degree of impact on Bath's various business sectors.  Many commentators judge a recession to be two consecutive quarters of negative growth so UK is now in recession. Bath has however seen a rise in unemployment and sales in the manufacturing and service sectors have slowed resulting in many job losses at large corporations in Bath and of course all the job losses at Woolworths, the area has been hard hit when there was already little employment in the area due to it’s relatively rural location. On a more positive note a number of business have reloacated to Bath and the surrounding countryside for a better quality of life and good infrastructure to the M4, M5 and M32. Tourism in Bath and Somerset also looks like it might struggle as people choose to stay at home, although others  that may have previously gone abroad are holidaying in the UK., for which Bath and the nearby Cotswolds are prime hot spots, with both global visitors and uk residents as it has lots to offer with its many museums, roman baths and pumproom, royal crescent and unique Georgian architecture. The museums have already reported an increase in visitor numbers up on last year.

Amongst the doom and gloom of economic downturn we all wonder who ruined Britain, but the  recession remains an opportunity for growth and development of the Internet. At a time when consumers are looking to shop around for prices and discounts it will be essential to have an Internet presence showing what your business can offer.
