  The University of Bath is ranked tenth in the recent 2012 Complete University league table guide. This puts 'Bath Uni' in the top ten with other prestigious universities including Oxford, Cambridge, LSE (London School of Economics) and Imperial College London. A number of criteria are used which include entry standards, research, completion rates and graduate prospects on graduation. This is a fantastic achievement for a university that was only given Royal Charter in 1966, with construction of the campus at Claverton Down having started 2 years earlier. Due to it's reputation The university of Bath attracts many students from overseas as it consistantly achieves high rankings in University status.

Like many students, students who come to University of Bath first experience of student accommodation is in Halls of Residence. The university has over 3000 rooms availabe, two thirds of these being located on campus accommodation. This gives new students a great feeling of security in Halls and the campus has won a security award. Accommodation are in self contained flats with communal kitchen facilities. This makes a great way to meet people when you are a fresher and good way to start your university social life. Alll rooms have internet access. Like many students nationwide many students prefer to move into the private rented sector with their friends for their second and third year and choose to rent a flat  or rent a house in Bath.

On Campus there are a range of places to eat including an international food court, a pasty outlet, a sandwich bar, a bar selling pizza and more formal dining which can be used for meetings and is available to staff and post graduate students. The campus is well resourced with its own medical Centre and doctors, and also dentist. Student wellbeing is a key factor when many freshers are experience life away from home for the first time.

Conveniently the library for the university is located at the centre of the campus and is open 24 hours a day. It can accommodate up to 1200 people studying at any time and has over 500,000 books

The student union (BUSU) at Bath Spa University which is recognised by the National Union of Students as one of the best in the country, opened a prestigious new student centre in 2010 at a cost of over £5 million. This forms a key part of University life and is also ‘the hub’ for the many clubs at the university Including rugby, swimming and other sports. The range of sports is extremely wide and includes American Football, triathlon, hockey, fencing , netball, karate, gliding, shooting, snowsports, wind surfing and waterpolo.  Sports facilities at the Uni offer a high level of options including an indoor and outdoor track, squash courts, fitness suite, indoor tennis courts and indoor swimming pool. There also extensive outdoor sports facilities for team sports.

Nightlife is not limited just to campus with nightclubs in the city proving popular with students with Bar XL and Bath PO Na Na proving very popular. Bar XL runs a student night on a Thursday called Glamourpuss which is extremely poular with students. PO Na Na offers drinks promotions so again is very popular with Students. For Nights out  Bath city centre pubs and bars rely on the student trade. 

Each year the Bath University Student Union hold a Summer Ball which has become renowned for being one of the great student events of the year and sells out in hours. The event consists of live music, entertainment food venues, bars and funfair making it a magical night.

University Departments

The University of Bath School of Management is renowned for its high quality teaching and strong corporate links. These include Google, National Trust, orange, Unilever, Motarola and WH Smith giving students fantastic opportunities to blend academic and work experience.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is well known for both its education and its research engineering activities. Again the department is well connect to the commercial world with links to companies such as Honda, Renishaw, GE, Rolls Royce and Agusta Westland, its science department has also won many awards.

The Department of Economics is well known around the world encompassing undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as research. Those who graduate with a BSc in Natural Sciences follow a wide and varied career path from data analyst to energy manager to teacher. The university also offer an MBA which has developed an excellent reputation for its quality  teaching and was rated 5th in the world for ‘Personal Development and Educational Experience’ source The Economist: Which MBA (2010). The students range from people in their late twenties to mature students in their fifties with the average student being in their early thirties.

The School of Music & Performing Arts at Bath Spa University offers fantastic facilities including a 186 theatre, recording studio, and multi-media labs  for students studying music and performing arts. Courses span degrees in music, dance, theatre production to research degrees in music. The Bath Spa University Open day allows prospective students to find out more about the university, its courses and style of study; helping students make one of the most important decisions of their lives.

The School of Art and Design offer a full range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research degrees. allowing you to study for a BA degree course or an MA. The School of Art and Design is based at the attractive  Sion Hill Campus in Bath.

The BBC are currently featuring a series of programmes in which Theo Paphitis the retail entrepreneur  follows high street buyers and suppliers as they experience the challenges of bringing their unique product to market.. Past Bath School of Art and Design graduate Catherine Gray was chosen as one of the  pitches with her design for series of colourful vases with a part image of her daughters face to Habitat,  which is currently in the early stages of production with an Italian ceramics manufacturer, before it hits the Habitat store.

Term dates – these run as two semesters, the first running from September until December and the second running from January until June.

Jobs at the University of Bath are varied covering all types of technical and social disciplines due to the diversity of courses and activities the Uni undertakes. These span from Head of Department to Research roles. Vacancies are eagerly awaited by the local and wider academic community.

The university also host several community events throughout the year such as the Race for Life 5k and 10races for the cancer research charity and in November it hosts a large bonfire and firework display for all local residents to attend.

Getting to the University

The University campus is located in Claverton Down, on the east side of Bath. The university can be reached from Bath Spa  train station where  buses run regularly to the University campus.
