Bath to Bristol Cycle route

Bath to Bristol via National Cycle Route  Approx 14 miles each way.

Route follows the National Cycle Route No4 along the old Bath to Bristol Railway line which has been developed as  part of their national network. All tarmac surface some slight rolling slopes. Completley off road.

Start point Car Park at Bath Spa Railway Station.

From the car park drop down imediatley onto the water front. ( you may have to go left along Dorchester St and drop down onto the water front via Broad Quay, depending on where you are parked).
Once on the water front you cycle along the path on the waters edge which runs parallel with Green Park Road, with the river on your left hand side and a small wooded verge on your right hand side.
Keep to this waterside cycle path and you will pass under numerous bridges as you cycle along leaving Bath. After a couple of miles you will reach a lock on the river (Weston Lock), ear left at this point keeping to the water side path, After about 500 yards the path meets with a bridge across the river.
Cross the river over the bridge, you will now be on the National Cycle Route No4 which is a dedicated cycle path which will take you all the way to Bristol.
You will pass by rural countryside as well as some small towns along the way. For a while along the cycle way you will find that the path runs alongside the railway line (home of the Avon Steam Railway) until you reach Oldland Common.
When you reach the town of Warmley you will come to a fork in the path, take the right hand fork. Then after 300 yrads turn left on the cycle path under the dual carriageway (A4175).
As soon as you pass under the dual carriageway turn right along the path and follow it round the bend to Mangotsfield Raiway Station.
Continue along the cycle path and after about three quarters of a mile and you will come to Staple Hill where you will pass through a tunnel which is about 400 yards long.
Carry on along the cycle way and as you enter the suburbs of Bristol you will come to a small park on your right with a five a side football pitch. Carry on past the park and when you reach the third bridge over the path after the park, the path meets with St Phillips Road on the right.
Bear right up St Phillips Road where you will come to a small park area on your right.
You have reached your destination….

During the summer season approx Easter to Sept/Oct refreshments are available at Warmley Station along the way. and are also available at Bitton Railway Station for the steam train (bike friendly).

You can if you wish ride one way and return on the train, check train times first though.
